As the weather forecasters predict a hot, dry summer, your garden plants need extra attention. Proper watering is key to ensuring your plants not only survive, but thrive and flourish in the heat. We've put together 6 important tips for you to follow this summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udca7 1. Water early in the morning<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Watering during the day evaporates most of the water before it reaches the roots. Irrigation in the morning or evening helps water to be absorbed more efficiently and prevents plants from scorching. Aim for the morning as a priority. This is best because it ensures that the plants can dry out during the day. This may be difficult to do while working without an automatic watering system, but it is not impossible. The danger of watering in the evening is that the mist will settle on the plants and lawns in particular, and if this is combined with a warm night, it can be a breeding ground for fungal diseases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Frequent, shallow watering leads to shallow root systems. Instead, water less frequently and in larger quantities so that the water reaches the lower layers of the roots - this makes the plants more resistant to drought and can also build up a small reserve in the soil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is not recommended to cut the grass short in this heat. If you do mow, it is best to leave the grass clippings behind and not to collect them, as they also cover the soil. Better still, mow only where you are driving. Spread grass clippings or any kind of vegetable clippings, bark or straw around ornamental plants and vegetables. This will help retain soil moisture, reduce evaporation and even keep weeds down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An environmentally friendly and economical solution! Rainwater is softer than tap water and ideal for plants. With a simple barrel you can save a lot and help nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you travel regularly or just want to save time, an automatic watering system or drip irrigation can be a great help in the summer heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A common issue is the treatment of lawn fungus \ud83c\udf31\ud83c\udf44<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Intensive lawn care - often with nitrogen fertilisers and daily watering - can often lead to fungal growth. The reason is that nitrogen causes the grass to grow rapidly, the tissues to loosen and then the fungus comes in due to improper watering + warm humidity. To treat it, but especially to prevent it, we suggest the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Instead of watering for a short period every day, water every 3-4 days, and in the morning.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Do not use high doses of nitrogen fertiliser<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Prevent Tricho Immunos <\/a>spraying<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    \ud83d\udc9a Tricho Immun<\/strong>os<\/a> treatment works well as a preventive measure and not in this heat, it may reduce the fungal growth that develops, but without the technological recommendations mentioned above, lasting success is not guaranteed. However, a quick help can be a Softguard<\/strong>os<\/a> spraying to prevent the spread of fungal threads, but this is also recommended primarily as a preventive measure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
