This is how mycorrhizal fungi protect ornamental plants from the effects of drought-induced stress!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Have you ever wondered how some plants manage to thrive even in the hottest heatwaves and driest conditions, whilst others wither away completely?\u00a0
The secret lies not on the surface, but in the soil, at the level of the roots. An important role is played here by the mycorrhizal fungus<\/strong>, which forms a special bond with the roots of plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do you need to know about arbuscular mycorrhizae?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mycorrhiza is a lifelong, mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship between a plant\u2019s roots and mycorrhizal fungi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fungus\u2019s delicate network of threads (mycelium) weaves through the soil<\/strong>, and from places such as is able to make available<\/strong> water and nutrients <\/strong>(such as phosphorus, which is difficult to access), which the plant\u2019s tiny hair-like roots would be unable to reach. In this way, the fungi are effectively able to extend the root. In return, the plant nourishes the fungus with the sugars produced during photosynthesis.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This relationship significantly increases the plants\u2019 resistance<\/strong> against the stresses caused by climate change, particularly drought and heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
