Previous in our blog postKelpak rooting cuttings, and now we would like to share with you an experiment in flowering.

The trial was carried out in 2011-12 at Oakvalley Flowers nursery in South Africa, from where the Kelpak also comes from. The aim of the experiment was to investigate how the Kelpakos dipping and foliar treatment on the quality and flowering of lily flowers.

MethodDoseTreatment time
onion Kelpakba sauce1 % solutionbefore planting
foliar treatment (5 times)2 % solutionevery 12-14 days after sprouting, 5 times in total
Control

The control received nothing and all methods received the usual plant protection and nutrient supplementation.

The following were observed (Kelpakos algae experiments):

From first column in both graphs shows the Kelpak root penetration, while the second column the Kelpak foliar treatment. A right columns untreated control.

  1. Inoculated and control plants had 2 per stem, while the Kelpak by foliar spraying produced an average of 3 flowers per stem (Figure 1).
  2. VIDEO: Kelpak flower mass of the foliar spray treatment was 28% higher than the control and 15% higher than the Kelpak onion dipping treatment (Figure 2).
  3. Although the Kelpak onion dipping yielded larger primary flowers than Kelpak foliar spraying and the control, with foliar spraying eventually yielding more flowers with a more even size distribution (Figure 3).
  4. VIDEO: Kelpak foliar treatment method, lily stem length and stem diameter exceeded both the dipping treatment and the control (Figure 4).
Kelpak graph

From first two columns the Kelpak root dipping technology, while the second three columns the Kelpak foliar treatment, and last two columns shows untreated control.

From first column in both graphs shows the Kelpak root penetration, while the second column the Kelpak foliar treatment. A right columns untreated control.

What does this mean in short?

Kelpak 1 litre

Kelpak foliar treatments give much better results in terms of flower yield and stem quality than bulb dipping alone.
