We have been taught that soil is beautiful when it is black and weed-free. However, when soil is left alone, nature begins to reclaim it. The first plants appear, many say weeds 😁 and after a few years the shrubs emerge and the final plant community is a wooded forest. But why?
10 reasons why plants cover the soil and you should too:
- The problem is no longer the winter cold, but the summer heat. It's when we humans retreat into the shade or put on a hat or a cap. The soil should also be covered with plants to protect against the heat, as the temperature of a covered soil is 5-10 degrees lower and does not heat up as much.
- Less and less often, but then great amount of precipitation is falling down these days. And if your area is even a little bit sloped. carry soil from the upper parts to the lower areas. This damaging "soil migration" can also be blocked if there is a plant on it that slows down the flow of water.
- If there is a plant in our area, it must be the root from deep also able to pick up the nutrients, and those uploaded by to the parts above ground. When the above-ground part of the plant dies, it leaves behind nutrient-rich organic matter. This way we can reduce the amount of fertiliser we use!
- If you have plants in your area all the time, they its dead root system leaves behind tunnels, cavitiesin which water and air, as well as small animals such as worms, can move. Turbo-charge the soil "road network" with dead root networks!

5. If you cover your soil with plants all year round, you will have sequestering greenhouse carbon dioxide (CO2) in the air and converting it into humus and oxygen with plants! Do more to make the planet a better place to live!
6. A dead remains of cover crops (especially from the root) in 1-2 years humus can be formed! Humus is the most valuable part of the soil! Why not increase its quantity? 1 kg of humus can absorb 100 kg of water. We can also protect ourselves against drought by storing more water in the soil!
7. If they are among the cover crops butterfly plants, then they are nitrogen in the air with the bacteria living in them concluded, and incorporate them into their bodies. When these butterfly plants die, they leave behind nitrogen-rich soil. So no nitrogen fertiliser needs to be applied! In Danuba 10M, the butterfly ratio is above 60% 👍

8. Ha a wide variety of cover crops we use, then increase the Soildiversity, and thus its vitality. The more variety you have in your area, the healthier it will be.
9. If you are very intense rain, then the capable of destroying the soil with large "punches"structure. Our soil is being eroded. If we cover it with plants, it will slow down the intense rain, tame it, so that only the positive water-replenishing effect can take place.
Where plants with a strong fragrance are also used for ground cover, they can repel insects, protecting our plants.

Let's also mention the disadvantages of using cover crops
- Costs money 😁 For example Danuba Garden 10M-a mixture of 10 types of cover crops with mycorrhizae 1kg costs nearly four thousand forints
- Because they cool the soil, it is harder for it to warm up in spring. Warm-demanding plants can be sown and planted 1-2 weeks later.
- As the cover crops hold back the soil, the snail will also feel more comfortable on that soil. This may need to be counteracted by, for example, leaching calcium, which is good for the soil, or coffee bags.
- Cover crops also take up water and nutrients from the soil, so if you are planting cover crops, give them extra watering and foliar fertiliser e.g. Asco Alga, Kelpak or DanuVital Bio+

A clever man was asked why weeds grow better than seedlings? He replied that weeds are the mother earth's sweet child, while the plant planted there is only a adopted child. So we should not be so afraid of weeds, because even they are better than bare soil. Of course, we should not let them bloom and possibly cause allergies.
So it's your choice whether you cover your soil or let it look more like Mars 😁
