The weather is changing, summers are getting hotter, and harmful UV rays are scorching our plants. That is why we need to protect them from the from sunburn, because it takes time for plants to adapt to such rapid changes.
In such cases, we can help the plant by strengthening its cell walls and tissues, and making it more robust. One of the best ways to do this is to silicon ensures.
Research and observations have shown that, during periods of such stress, the plant naturally increases its silicon content; this can be supplemented by adding further silicon.
In which materials around us is silicon found?
Silicon is found, for example, in glass, sand, quartz, bricks and concrete. From this, we can see that these are all very strong materials that can withstand external forces.
Is there any silicon in the soil for the plant to take up?
Silicon is the second most common element in the Earth’s crust, meaning there is plenty of it in the soil, yet it is barely absorbable! Plants can only take it up from the soil via their roots in the form of water-soluble monosilicic or orthosilicic acid (e.g. silicic acid). However, the uptake of silicon is a very slow process. As a result, plants are generally unable to take up enough silicon.
How can we provide our plants with silicon?
- If silicon oxide minerals are ground into a fine powder, then sprayed onto We create a coating on the leaf that resembles shards of glass. These tiny, sharp, hard crystals they reflect some of the sun’s rays and harmful UV radiation, so cool and protect the leaves!
- However, if water-soluble silicic acid is sprayed onto the leaf, a large proportion of it can penetrate the cells within the leaf and become incorporated into the cell walls. The silicon incorporated into the cell wall increases both its hardness and its elasticity. Depending on whether it is converted into an oxide or remains in acid form.

- strengthens the skin tissue, which means it is less likely to crack, thus preventing the fruit from splitting,

- and this makes the plant stronger, so it doesn’t bend over as much, for example in the wind or when bearing a heavy crop…
