What are amino acids?

How does sugar turn into amino acids and then into protein? Find out about one of the most important building processes in plants!

The first step in life is the sugar molecule

During photosynthesis, plants use the energy from sunlight to „split” water into two parts. In other words, H2O is „split” into hydrogen (H) and oxygen (O). The plant exhales the oxygen, thereby providing oxygen-rich air for animals and humans.

Whilst the plant exhales oxygen, inhales carbon dioxide (CO2) and combines this with the hydrogen released. This gives rise to the sugar molecule! To be precise, this is actually glucose.

The second step involves amino acids

By adding nitrogen and sulphur to the glucose molecule, the plant is able to produce various amino acids.

A plant needs 20 different amino acids to build its structure optimally.

One of the important plant-derived amino acids is proline, which helps the plant cope more easily with periods of stress.

This amino acid is found in the SiCa-Rio in our product too: Stress relief is essential in the summer, as during periods of drought and intense UV radiation!

The third step is proteins

The plant derives its amino acids from produces proteins, and these proteins are used to produce various essential substances.

The protein found in the greatest quantities on Earth is RuBisCo, which is the CO2 are responsible for its fixation during photosynthesis. They are also essential for Ferredoxin proteins that transport electrons during photosynthesis.

Seaweeds also contain large amounts of amino acids and proteins, such as Asco Alga and the Kelpak seaweed.

Apart from water, the muscles in the human body consist mainly of proteins. It is no coincidence that athletes take amino acids and proteins as dietary supplements, as replenishing these is essential!

All this clearly demonstrates that amino acids and proteins play an indispensable role not only in the human body, but also in the plant and animal kingdoms.
